BON Hotels steps up accessible travel with SA Guide-Dogs partnership

Cape Town, 15 February 2024 – BON Hotels, a fast-growing, exciting, and leading African hotel group, has announced a ground-breaking partnership with the SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind. This alliance, launching at Protea Hotel by Marriott Cape Town Durbanville, underscores BON Hotels’ unwavering commitment to fostering an environment where inclusivity and accessibility are not just buzzwords but a lived reality for every guest.

The partnership is anchored in the Assistance Dog Access Programme, an initiative by the SA Guide-Dogs Association to combat the discrimination Assistance Dog Owners encounter when accessing public places. “We receive soul-destroying messages almost daily from Assistance Dog Owners denied entry to public places. This is not only illegal but completely immoral,” says a representative from the Association. The programme extends on-site training to public entities, ensuring persons with disabilities and their Assistance Dogs are accorded dignity and respect.

As part of this collaboration, all staff across BON Hotels will undergo comprehensive training on accessibility. An online workshop is scheduled for the days following the launch event, engaging all General Managers and leadership teams.

Guy Stehlik, CEO of BON Hotels, explains: “Accessible travel is a cornerstone of our ethos. We are committed to a world where everyone, irrespective of their physical abilities, can explore and be welcomed with open arms. This partnership with the SA Guide-Dogs Association is a monumental step in making this vision a reality. Ensuring that our hotels are not only comfortable but also inclusive and accessible remains front and centre for BON Hotels.”
