Let the son shine

Discarding the negative spirit is not easy.

We occasionally need a life-changing event to remind us to be grateful. In tough circumstances, we so easily get caught up in the darkness that we cannot see the wood for the trees. At BON Hotels over the last few months, we have experienced quite a few of these tough moments, so many in fact so that I sometimes found myself yearning for the cushy days of corporate salary-earning, those relatively easy days of walking out of the office and leaving its troubles behind at knock-off time, handing in a leave form when a break is necessary.

But then I thought of something I had I learnt through a difficult time in my life: writing down a ‘gratitude list’ every single night. In doing so, one thing that became clear to me is that I’m very grateful to be the captain of my own fate.

It can be so easy to get caught up in darkness. I have been guilty of allowing the dark clouds of stress and worry hover over me for too long.

And then…my wife gave birth to our son! Suddenly all was well with the world, the life-changing event I so needed.

Gazing into the sparkling eyes of my new-born son, I am reminded of one important thing:

1. We have so much for which to be grateful.
