The lack of basic hygiene products is a reality for many women and girls in South Africa. This Women’s Month, BON Hotels is on a mission to make a difference, one essential item at a time.
The challenge of ‘period poverty’ in South Africa is stark. According to a recent report from ‘I Menstruate,’ 83% of young women learners in SA struggle to access menstrual hygiene products. This absence doesn’t just impact education; it ripples through to work opportunities and overall quality of life. The silent struggle with dignity that comes from this lack is immeasurable.
But here’s the beautiful truth – small acts of kindness can create incredible change. A pack of sanitary pads might seem insignificant, but it could make the difference between a young girl being able to attend school or not or being the support someone needs to go to work with confidence and dignity. All because someone took a moment to donate essential hygiene products.
That’s why from 1 – 31 August 2024, all BON Hotels across South Africa are serving as collection points for sanitary products, including pads and reusable period underwear. Guests, staff, and community members are invited to drop off donations at reception areas, marked by eye-catching lollipop stands and informative flyers.
We’re also contacting our suppliers and stakeholders, encouraging them to join this wave of generosity.
This campaign highlights what we strive for in the BON Hotels family – to be GOOD people and create a community that cares. We believe in the power of collective action to uplift our communities. Each donation, no matter how small, contributes to a larger reality of empowerment and dignity for women across South Africa.
The impact of this initiative extends far beyond August. By partnering with local NGOs and non-profit schools, we ensure the collected items reach those who most need them.
BON Hotels is committed to continuing to support women in our communities. We invite you to join us in making giving a year-round habit. Whether you’re a guest at one of our hotels, a partner, or someone who believes in the power of small acts of kindness, you can be part of this change.
In the end, it’s not just about hygiene products. It’s about showing women and girls that they matter, their needs are seen, and their communities stand with them.
Visit any BON Hotel this August to make your donation, or reach out to learn more about how you can support this initiative. Together, we can create a stronger, more empowering future for women across Southern Africa.
